The new Rasmussen poll finds that a narrow majority of voters say they want the current government shutdown to continue.
According to the national survey, 51% of likely US voters say they approve of continuing the shutdown, including 31% who say they strongly approve. Forty-one percent (41%) say they disapprove, with 29% saying they strongly disapprove.
For the past three weeks, Senate Democrats have maintained a filibuster to keep the shutdown in place until their demands are met. The poll shows two-thirds (66%) of Democratic voters approve of continuing the shutdown — along with 41% of Republicans and 44% of independent voters.
Based on what they know about negotiations, 26% of voters say Senate Republicans should agree to all the demands made by Democrats, while 34% say they should agree to at least some of those demands. Another 33% say Republicans should not agree to any of the Democrats’ demands.
Party affiliation strongly influences those views. Forty-one percent (41%) of Democrats say Senate Republicans should agree to all the Democrats’ demands, while 50% of GOP voters say Republicans should not agree to any. Among unaffiliated voters, 19% say Republicans should agree to all, 36% say some, and 33% say none of the Democrats’ demands.
Interest in the issue is high: 83% of voters say they’ve been following news about the shutdown, with nearly half (48%) following “very closely.” Among those paying very close attention, 56% approve of continuing the shutdown.
The poll also finds that 60% of Democrats, 48% of Republicans, and 55% of independents say they consider it “very important” to bring the shutdown to an end soon.
Among those who voted for Kamala Harris in last year’s presidential election, 69% say they approve of continuing the shutdown. Among those who voted for Donald Trump, 59% say they disapprove.
Despite majority approval for keeping the shutdown in place for now, 81% of all voters say it’s important to end it soon.
The survey of 1,220 likely US voters was conducted October 15–16 and 19, 2025, by Rasmussen Reports, with a margin of sampling error of ±3 percentage points.

I don’t know about the 51% but one thing that pisses me off is those clowns in congress and senate MADE DAM SURE they would continue to get paid. So why settle? I’m still getting paid. You can be dam sure if was their check AND ALL PERKS stopped at shutdown day this would have been settled weeks ago. Thats the trouble with these clowns, they care for themselves first you and I – oh well!
