The following is from Just the News.
The House Oversight Committee voted Wednesday to advance resolutions holding former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in contempt of Congress after both declined to comply with subpoenas to testify before the panel.
The committee voted separately on each resolution. The measure involving Bill Clinton passed 34–8, while the resolution targeting Hillary Clinton passed 28–15. Both votes send the resolutions to the full House for consideration.
If approved by the House, the matter would be referred to the Dept. of Justice, where the Clintons could face potential criminal contempt charges.
The Oversight Committee subpoenaed the Clintons as part of an investigation into their connections to the late Jeffrey Epstein. Committee members cited frustration with the DOJ’s handling of the Epstein case and said testimony was needed to determine accountability.
Neither Bill nor Hillary Clinton appeared before the panel.
The move follows similar actions taken during the Biden administration against Trump allies Peter Navarro and Steve Bannon, who refused to comply with subpoenas issued by the House Jan. 6 Committee. Both were later convicted and sentenced to prison.
The contempt resolutions now move to the full House for a vote.
