(WATCH) Ashli Babbit-Update

Original air date: October 12th 2025

An update to a story we’ve been covering for over 4 years. An honorable ending for Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt, an unarmed protestor who was the only person killed the morning of January 6, 2021.

The following is a transcript of a report from “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson.”
Watch the video by clicking the link at the end of the page.

On October 10, 2020, Ashli Babbitt celebrated her 35th birthday.

Three months later, she set off for Washington D.C. and joined an estimated tens of thousands of like-minded Trump supporters at a rally protesting what they see as a “stolen election.”

Not long after a photo of Ashli Babbit draped in a pro-Trump campaign cape was taken, she marched to the U.S. Capitol where Congress was certifying the 2020 election results.

There, unarmed and still wearing the cape, Babbitt started to climb through a broken window and was shot dead.

Shary (on camera): Babbitt was shot and killed by Lt. Michael Byrd, an officer with the US Capitol police.Late this summer the Secretary of the Air Force sent a letter to the Babbitt family offering full military funeral honors.. Something that had been denied by the Biden administration. That follows on the heels of a nearly $5million wrongful death settlement against the US government.

I think it’s right to award the 5 million. In my opinion, it should have been more than 5 million. I personally have a serious issue with Byrd walking away without any accountability. Byrd should be prosecuted and face a jury of his peers, and let them decide his fate, but unfortunately, like most issues in D.C., they just throw a mound of DCBS to cover things up and drag them out beyond the Statute of Limitations. I’m not an attorney, but I don’t think that applies to murder. I’m not sure, but it wouldn’t surprise me if D.C. has a Statute of Limitations on killing someone. Our nation’s capital is unacceptable…period!

  2. Found some interesting facts on Byrd, who has had deep financial issues,
    1. Failed gov background check in 2017 (how did this goon even have a job at that point?)
    2. He & his wife run a “daycare” out of their very expensive Maryland home (interesting with all the corruption coming out on MN daycares – MD pays about $13K per kid) paperwork shows 4 kids enrolled at the daycare
    3. A failure to pass a routine background check shortly after Jan. 6 when attempting to purchase a shotgun for home protection, after the USCP worked to provide Byrd a department-issued shotgun instead, he failed the training.
