The following is from Rasmussen Reports.
An overwhelming majority of likely US voters say they reject the idea that children are property of the state and oppose government coercion in education, according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey.
Only 15% of likely US voters say parents should be subject to criminal prosecution if they do not send their children to public schools. Seventy percent (70%) say parents should not face criminal prosecution, while 16% say they are not sure. Similarly, 70% say judges should not have the legal authority to determine which method of education parents can use for their children.
Eighty-six percent (86%) say they do not believe children are property of the state.
Sixty-two percent (62%) of voters say they approve of home schooling, including 28% who say they strongly approve. Twenty-eight percent (28%) say they disapprove, including 10% who strongly disapprove, while 10% say they are not sure.
There is broad agreement across party lines. Majorities of Republicans, Democrats and voters not affiliated with either major party say they approve of home schooling and reject the idea that children are property of the state. At least two-thirds across all political affiliations say parents should not face criminal prosecution for not sending their children to public schools and say judges should not decide education methods for families.
The survey of 1,104 likely US voters was conducted February 10–12, 2026. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Apparently Rasmussen has lost its way on this one. Wonder who they polled and how they weighted it and….who paid for it?
Most surprising to me is that 14% of people think children ARE property of the state?!? What in the world are those people thinking?
