(READ) Blackburn presses Apple over suppression of conservative news

The following is from Sen. Marsha Blackburn’s office.

‘The American public increasingly relies on services like Apple News to provide them with information, and they deserve to have access to perspectives across the political spectrum.’

U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) sent a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook, pressing him on reporting that Apple News has systematically suppressed news articles from right-leaning publications while amplifying articles from left-leaning publications. In the letter, Senator Blackburn requested all internal data on the distribution of stories from outlets across the political spectrum featured on the platform over the last year.

Last Month, Apple Posted Zero Stories from Right-Leaning Outlets and 440 Stories from Left-Leaning Outlets

“The American public increasingly relies on services like Apple News to provide them with information, and they deserve to have access to perspectives across the political spectrum. To deny consumers that ability through algorithmic promotion or editorial bias is a disservice to those who use your product. According to the Media Research Center (MRC), which analyzed over 600 stories featured by Apple News in the morning time slots between January 1 and January 31 of this year, 440 of these were published by left-leaning outlets. A whopping zero stories from outlets considered right-leaning were featured. These outlet ratings came from AllSides, a nonpartisan organization that utilizes a panel of experts from the left, center, and right to analyze the political leaning of news outlets. While AllSides did not participate in MRC’s study, the director of their media bias rating system said she was ‘not surprised at all’ and Americans are not ‘getting the full scope of perspectives available.’”

Blackburn Echoes FTC Chairman Ferguson’s Concerns that Apple’s Systematic Suppression May Violate Consumer Protection Rules

“The Federal Trade Commission, under the leadership of Chairman Andrew Ferguson, recently sent a letter to your company calling on Apple to review its policies and warning that the systematic suppression of viewpoints—regardless of political affiliation—could violate consumer protection rules. I echo Chairman Ferguson’s concerns. Apple News is automatically installed on Apple devices and was purportedly ranked the most popular news application in the United States, Canada, and Australia in January. You have a responsibility to offer access to information without favor or bias toward one political party.”

Dear Mr. Cook:

I write to express my concern with recent reporting that Apple News has systematically suppressed news articles from conservative publications while amplifying articles from liberal outlets. The American public increasingly relies on services like Apple News to provide them with information, and they deserve to have access to perspectives across the political spectrum.

The Federal Trade Commission, under the leadership of Chairman Andrew Ferguson, recently sent a letter to your company calling on Apple to review its policies and warning that the systematic suppression of viewpoints—regardless of political affiliation—could violate consumer protection rules. You have a responsibility to offer access to information without favor or bias toward one political party.

Throughout my entire career, I have pushed back against Big Tech’s systematic censorship of conservatives and President Trump has rightly promised to return free speech to America. With that in mind, please respond to the following questions by March 4, 2026:

  1. Has Apple News ever excluded or deprioritized content from right-leaning outlets based on anti-conservative bias?
  2. How does Apple determine which articles are featured or promoted in Apple News feeds? Please explain the role of human editorial judgment versus algorithmic ranking in that process.
  3. Please provide any internal data on the distribution of stories from outlets across the political spectrum featured on the platform in the last year.
  4. Has Apple conducted or commissioned any internal review or audit of Apple News algorithms with respect to political bias since these reports first emerged? If so, what were the findings?
  5. If a third-party news outlet believes it has been unfairly excluded or deprioritized on Apple News, what mechanisms exist for appeal or review by the publisher?

Sincerely,

Marsha Blackburn
United States Senator

  1. I use Firefox Focus. They even try to steal that back. DuckDuckGo is compromised or or weak. Google tells me it doesn’t like the fact that I’m using Firefox Focus and tries to take it back.

  2. Masybe she should also tell Google to be neutral. Their search engine is completely biased and many times it i s impossible to find something that you know happened because if isn’t anti-Trump they won’t show it.

  4. I appreciate Marsha doing this. The Marxists have again poured money into saturating “alternate” media in the past year. It’s evident when they do sloppy editing, copying and pasting. The comments are generally long for that reason. Names of posters have patterns that tip you off. They often arrive in droves. They’re never honest nor support claims and posts are designed to get you to doubt or be discouraged. I blocked the provided news from the big players. I reason and research before I accept things especially because of the prevalence of propaganda. There are some writers that I trust, like Sharyl, who I do still read critically. SubStack has been a good medium for reading writers and comments, but the Marxist/DNC/Global-opportunists/deep-state/Islamic crowd are soiling that once refreshing domain. “Journalism” just like the “entertainment media” has and never will be “safe,” nor unbiased . To believe that it may, is an “easy” route to information, but also a dangerously foolish one.

Frequent short articles from time to time on the media farms and other tactics of the “media Marxist propagandists” are good to expose and counteract their evil tactics. Sharyl has done much appreciated long form in books and here on these subjects. God bless her, her family, and her efforts.

  5. The truth is it’s not just Apple. Just about every media network INCLUDING BBC & PBS purposely report liberal slanted news, if one can even call it news anymore.
I’ll watch one half hour of national news from NBC or CBS. Then tune out.
