The following is from the Border Report.
Mexican authorities say they found 239 migrants locked inside a trailer box after stopping a northbound semi reported stolen in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz.
Officials said 222 adults from Central and South America are being prepared for repatriation, while 17 unaccompanied minors remain in the custody of a child welfare agency in Xalapa.
The truck was stopped near the town of Puente Nacional. After it was taken to an impound lot, workers reportedly heard banging and screams coming from inside the trailer.
Authorities said the migrants were dehydrated but otherwise in stable condition and were given humanitarian aid.
The driver was arrested.
Officials said the adult migrants are being transported to a National Migration Institute facility and are expected to be returned to their home countries, including Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Ecuador.
The region is known for activity by transnational criminal organizations involved in migrant smuggling operations.
