(POLL) Democrats widen lead on Social Security

The following is from Rasmussen Reports.

Democrats hold a growing advantage over Republicans on the issue of Social Security as the midterm elections approach, according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey.

Forty-six percent (46%) of likely US voters say they trust Democrats more to handle Social Security, while 40% say they trust Republicans more and 14% say they are not sure. That marks a wider gap compared to last year, when Democrats held just a two-point edge.

Social Security remains a major issue for voters. Eighty-nine percent (89%) say it will be important in deciding their vote in the next congressional election, including 62% who say it will be very important.

Among those who say the issue is very important, 55% say they trust Democrats more, while 34% say they trust Republicans more.

Views differ by party. Eighty-three percent (83%) of Democrats say they trust their own party more on Social Security, while 78% of Republicans say they trust the GOP more. Among unaffiliated voters, 39% say they trust Democrats more, 33% say they trust Republicans more and 28% say they are not sure.

The survey of 1,080 likely US voters was conducted April 19–21, 2026. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.

  1. The actions of the democrat party will bankrupt SSI. At every opportunity, they strive to add more people to government dependency programs.
