Most voters say they believe US officials likely helped conceal China’s role in the origins of the Covid-19 outbreak, according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey.
Sixty-three percent (63%) of likely US voters say they think it is likely some US officials were involved in a cover-up of China’s role in the Covid-19 pandemic, including 43% who say it is very likely. Twenty-five percent (25%) say they do not believe it is likely, while 13% say they are not sure.
The survey was completed before testimony from a CIA whistleblower alleging Dr. Anthony Fauci improperly influenced intelligence analyses to downplay findings that Covid-19 most likely resulted from a laboratory accident in China.
The poll also found continuing concerns about vaccine safety. Fifty-nine percent (59%) say they believe it is likely side effects from Covid-19 vaccines caused a significant number of unexplained deaths, while 31% say they do not think that is likely.
Views differ by party. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of Republicans, 53% of Democrats and 58% of unaffiliated voters say they think it is at least somewhat likely US officials were involved in a Covid-19 cover-up.
The survey of 1,060 likely US voters was conducted May 10-12, 2026. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
