Most respondents say Americans should be able to opt out of receiving junk mail in their USPS mailbox.
That’s according to the latest unscientific poll at SharylAttkisson.com.
Ninety-one percent (91%) say they should be able to opt out of junk mail sent through USPS.
Nine percent (9%) say they should not be able to opt out.
The results show overwhelming support for giving people more control over what arrives in their mailbox.

Poll Question: Should you be able to opt out of junk mail in your USPS mailbox?
91% Yes
9% No

Clearly few are in favor of junk mail, but the simple poll question fails to identify the elephant in the room.
Just how is this to be done? Who will identify what qualifies as “junk mail”? The Post Office ? … Are we not saying, we now want the government to censor our mail ??? Really ? You want the government to decide what we can receive?
Clearly we don’t learn. We gave up our rights when TSA was imposed. We gave up our rights when Covid was imposed.
I presume if the poll read “e”mail the vote would be the same?, or maybe “phone calls” ?
No, I don’t like junk mail, but “I” will decide (and recycle it !)

I think the simple truth is no one writes letters anymore. We’re in the digital age.
Take away junk mail and the PO collapses.
You can opt out. I used DMA Choice a while back (it was about $1 or $2) to opt out of junk mail from places we haven’t ordered from.
Who would say ‘no’ in this poll?! People should be forced to get junk mail? Wasting paper, much becoming non-biodegradable with the garbage they coat catalogs, and mailers in. We can’t even stop usps from reliving mail for people who haven’t lived at address in years.

An aside—have you given any
thought to writing that book ? :
“Rules for Orgies”
You’re journalists. Interview Gwyneth Paltrow,
and ask her if she ever has a sense of shame. Ask
if she fears a deadly venereal disease. Is she not
concerned with the message she’s sending to
young girls and boys. And how would she answer
this question, if asked by an eleven-year-old, say,
daughter of hers : “Mommy, can I be a sex-worker ?”
Chapter suggestions :
1): Who goes first ?
2): Does size really matter ?
3): Why does your sex club require a minimum penis size ?
4): May a person Age-Out of the club.
5): As with many night clubs discriminating against the unattractive—do good-looks matter ?
6): How often is a medical check-up required—discuss any fear of contracting a VD.

Should be able to, BUT if any non-junk mail gets caught up, that’s the mailbox owner’s responsibility. Can’t hold PO liable for determining what is junk.
Better would be to undo the practice of home delivery. Everyone go to the PO to collect their mail…as it was originally. Yes, more buildings, but ZERO carriers.
