Unscientific Poll: What Should be Censored?

Overwhelmingly anti-censorship results to last week's SharylAttkisson.com poll. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of respondents say either nothing or only illegal activity should be censored online.

This defies the trend by government, social media and other third parties that are increasingly censoring information and accounts online.

We asked:

What, if anything, should the government be able to censor online?

Results are below:

Censor nothing (45%)

Censor only illegal activity (53%)

Censor everything (0%)

Proceed as they are now (1%)

I don’t know (1%)

A hint of Barr's upcoming plans: Analysis

Above image: Attorney General William Barr being sworn in at a Congressional hearing[hr]

The following is an excerpts from an opinion article in The Hill by John Solomon[hr]

“The office of the inspector general has a pending investigation of the FISA process in the Russia investigation. I expect that will be complete in probably May or June, I am told,” Barr explained, giving the first concrete timetable for the IG probe to wrap up. “So hopefully we'll have some answers from Inspector General Horowitz on the issue of the FISA warrants.”

Then Barr volunteered his bigger news:

“More generally, I am reviewing the conduct of the investigation and trying to get my arms around all the aspects of the counterintelligence investigation that was conducted during the summer of 2016.”

--William Barr, Attorney General, April 9, 2019

(Maybe while Barr is at it, he would be interested in investigating what the intel community may have been afraid President Trump and his administration might uncover: a decade+ of surveillance abuses against US citizens including political figures and journalists. #Beyond2016)

Shopping Around: Incredible price differences on prescription drugs

The following is an excerpt from a Full Measure interview with Barbara Anthony, a healthcare cost expert with Pioneer Institute. How and why are prescription drugs priced the way that they are?

Barbara Anthony: We chose 44 pharmacies all around the state of Massachusetts. We called. We pretended to be consumers. We were self-pay. We wanted to make that clear. We were paying cash on the barrel head here and we asked for the price of 5 generic drugs and 3 brand name drugs from each of these pharmacies. And we obtained the price as best we could.

Sharyl: When they were able to get the information over the phone, they ended up with some important and surprising results. There were wide, unpredictable variations in drug prices that, to the average consumer, have no rhyme or reason.

Barbara Anthony: We found some staggering differences in price.

Sharyl: Amoxicillin, it’s a popular antibiotic, what were the price ranges for that?

Barbara Anthony: We were shocked at the range. This is a generic drug now not talking about brand name. It’s a generic antibiotic.

Sharyl: Amoxicillin ranged from $4.00 to more than $20...There’s a very popular generic to control cholesterol; Atorvastatin. According to your study, you found prices as low as $4 at one pharmacy but $199 at another pharmacy, an outlier?

Barbara Anthony: Independent stores were selling this drug for 10-15 dollars. All of the chains we looked at were higher. They were 70, 80, 90 over $100. This is the same drug. It’s a generic drug. It is very cheap.

Medical Costs: How it pays to shop around

medical-costs-960x365

The following is an excerpt from a Full Measure story. High medical costs have Americans divided and looking for a solution.

As loud and divisive as the presidential campaign has been so far, both parties agree on one thing: health care is one of the top issues concerning Americans.

And a recent Rasmussen poll found: 59 percent of likely voters consider reducing the cost of health care more important than making sure everyone has insurance, which is the goal of Obamacare.

But what can consumers to do control their cost?

These days, it’s easy to comparison shop for just about anything, except medical care, one of the most expensive services you’ll ever need.

That gave us an idea. We partnered on a project to try to compare prices of specific procedures. We ended up with some incredible results that show it pays to shop around.

James Rosen, Sen. Lindsey Graham and Texas Farms

Sunday on Full Measure, I'm pleased to have James Rosen join us for his debut on the program. He'll speak with an author who paints a different portrait of the Jimmy Carter presidency than much of history does. Welcome James!

Above image: James Rosen (left) debuts on Sunday's "Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson"

I'll have an interview with the man leading a new investigation now that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia probe concluded with no charges against any American for "Russia collusion." Senator Lindsey Graham heads the Judiciary Committee. He's spearheading a serious look into alleged misconduct by officials in the Department of Justice and FBI. He says evidence shows they misused powerful intelligence tools for political purposes to get Trump. We'll speak with him.

Senator Graham also has a lot to say about the current border crisis and what he thinks we should do about it.

And Scott Thuman goes down to the farm in Texas to explain how the trade war with China impacts the American farmer and the U.S. consumer.

Biden’s Ukranian Probe

Former Vice President Joe Biden

Above image: Joe Biden

The following is an excerpt from “Joe Biden’s 2020 Ukranian Nightmare” by John Solomon for The Hill

Two years after leaving office, Joe Biden couldn’t resist the temptation last year to brag to an audience of foreign policy specialists about the time as vice president that he strong-armed Ukraine into firing its top prosecutor.

In his own words, with video cameras rolling, Biden described how he threatened Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in March 2016 that the Obama administration would pull $1 billion in U.S. loan guarantees, sending the former Soviet republic toward insolvency, if it didn’t immediately fire Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin.

“I said, ‘You’re not getting the billion.’ I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money,’” Biden recalled telling Poroshenko.

“Well, son of a bitch, he got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time,” Biden told the Council on Foreign Relations event, insisting that President Obama was in on the threat.

Interviews with a half-dozen senior Ukrainian officials confirm Biden’s account, though they claim the pressure was applied over several months in late 2015 and early 2016, not just six hours of one dramatic day. Whatever the case, Poroshenko and Ukraine’s parliament obliged by ending Shokin’s tenure as prosecutor. Shokin was facing steep criticism in Ukraine, and among some U.S. officials, for not bringing enough corruption prosecutions when he was fired.
