READ: Sen. Grassley presses FBI on false testimony during Justice Kavanaugh confirmation

Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) recently asked the FBI and Justice Department for an update on any investigations into the cases of witnesses who allegedly gave false testimony to Congress during the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Several of the witnesses who testified against Justice Kavanaugh later admitted to giving false testimony.

It is a violation of several federal laws to share materially false information with committee investigators and to obstruct proceedings of congressional committees.

Grassley, then-Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, referred several of these apparent false statements to the Justice Department for investigation in 2018.

In October 2019, Grassley asked then-Attorney General William Barr and FBI Director Christopher Wray for updates on the referrals, but received no response.

Senator Grassley’s letter this week to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Wray asks them to explain what steps have been taken to investigate the four criminal referrals, and, if no actions have been taken, to explain why.

  1. This is not surprising we live with a two tier justice system. This is no equal justice now. The supreme court’s has no accountability, the FBI is blatantly political and if your on the left you can’t be held accountable for your law breaking.

  2. This should be Defense exhibit “A” for any person charged with “Obstruction of Congress” or “Interfering in Congressional Duties” as a result of the Jan 6th so called insurrection investigation as a violation of “equal treatment under the law”.

  3. Compare this to DOJ/FBI’s treatment of Roger Stone where the FBI used 29 agents including watercraft to arrest him in a pre-dawn CNN televised raid at his home, where he was convicted of false-testimony that was absolutely meaningless to any Congressional action, and where the US Attorneys sought 7-9 years of imprisonment way in excess of the applicable sentencing guidelines. We clearly have a two-tiered system of justice that is destroying this country due to its politicization.

  4. The corrupt FBI and DOJ folks are immune from accountability as well as, for the most part, prosecution for their misdeeds. Judicial Watch and other watchdog entities spend thousands on court action to require them to provide what the FOIA requires them to provide.

“Our government is the potent, the omnipresent teacher. For good or for ill it teaches the whole people by example. Crime is contagious. If the government becomes a lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy.” Justice Louis D. Brandeis
