(POLL) Most prefer limited govt., lower taxes

By a 14-point margin, most voters ay they still prefer a limited-government agenda.

That’s according to Rasmussen Reports.

The survey finds 52% of likely voters say they prefer a smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes.

Thirty-eight percent (38%) say they disagree and prefer a more active government with more services and higher taxes. Another 10% say they are not sure.

Support for smaller government has declined slightly since May 2021.

In surveys dating back to 2007, a majority of voters have always said they prefer smaller government, a preference that peaked at 70% in August 2009.

Nearly three-quarters of voters (72%) say government does not spend taxpayer money wisely and carefully. Only 16% say they believe government does spend taxpayer money wisely and carefully. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure.

Republican voters (74%) overwhelmingly prefer smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes, as do 30% of Democrats and 55% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

A majority of Democrats (58%) say they prefer a more active government with more services and higher taxes, as do 21% of Republicans and 32% of unaffiliated voters.

  1. Does this indicate that 38% of the nation are receiving some form of welfare from the government, Medicaid, SNAP, ACA subsidized medical, subsidized purchases of EVs, or direct welfare payments? As the gap narrows the US is nearing the point where the socialist will, as Margret Thatcher predicted, ‘run out of other people’s money’ to support Socialism and it will fail!
The day the government began any form of subsidies or handouts was the beginning of sliding down the socialism slope into the abyss. It may have been a century in the making but as we get closer the slide occurs faster.

    1. Jeff,

in the Eighties, a welfare queen
might manage to scam the many
      (un)welfare departments—garner-
      ing between $30-thousand to
      $40-thousand each year (( the
      more illegitimate children, the
      more goodies” )).

Today, it is close to $100,000.

The Great Attractor ( my term ) is
      the American-Communist-Lawyers-
Union-built 80, or so, Welfare Sys-
      tem TAX extractions from
      productive citizens..

In the late Nineties, there had been
      concern about how one federal
      ( no-show/no-work ) employee
was sustained by 3 private workers.

      Now, the federal Monopoly Money
      system needn’t be concerned about
      cost of “government,” as Monopoly
      Money grows on trees !

    1. Ruth,

      Right !

      And the “tranquility” clause,
      for which purpose the
      Constitution was conceived,
      as presented in its
      PREAMBLE—would have
      nixed all of the Welfare
      System’s Moral-Hazard
      insanity, if conservative men
( Christians ) had not been
      so mentally obtuse/weak.

      1. P.S.

Christian ministers / priests / deacons
        support The Great Attractor—our
        WELFARE State,
as it allows them to keep from
        having to apply Jesus’ CHARTABLE
calling – to aid the poor – allowing
        them to HOARD donations and
        build there own lavish lifestyles
        (( see Vatican’s massive/gaudy/
