The Center for Public Integrity Sues Feds


The federal government is spending more of your tax dollars defending yet another lawsuit for its unlawful response to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.

According to watchdog The Center for Public Integrity:

“The Center for Public Integrity [yesterday] filed a federal lawsuit against the Federal Election Commission — an agency that exists to enforce and administer the nation’s campaign finance laws — for failing to release documents requested last year under the Freedom of Information Act.”

Under the law, documents are supposed to be provided within 20 business days of the request. Instead, it often takes years–and even then, often documents are not provided.

The willful obstruction by the government when it comes to lawful FOI requests was the topic of a recent hearing on Capitol Hill at which I and other journalists testified.
