(POLL) 40% of Democrats approve of cancelling George Washington

Even though most voters have a positive opinion of George Washington, a substantial number of Democrats support a proposal in New York City that would tear down statues of America’s first president.

That’s according to the latest Rasmussen Reports.

The survey found that 82% of likely U.S. voters have a favorable impression of George Washington, including 49% with a “very favorable” view of the Virginian who led the Continental Army to victory in the Revolutionary War.

Just seven percent (7%) have an unfavorable opinion of Washington, while another 10% are not sure.

New York City is considering removing statues of Washington because he owned slaves.

Twenty-seven percent (27%) of U.S. voters approve of removing public monuments to Washington, including 11% who “strongly approve.”

However, two-thirds (66%) disapprove of removing monuments to Washington, including 48% who “strongly disapprove.”

Sixty-four percent (64%) of Republicans and 51% of voters not affiliated with either major party “strongly disapprove” of removing public monuments to Washington.

Democratic voters, however, are more evenly divided; 40% of Democrats approve of removing monuments to Washington – including 21% who “strongly approve” – while 53% disapprove, including 32% who “strongly disapprove.”

  1. “New York City is considering removing statues of Washington because he owned slaves.”

That’s just the excuse, not the reason. If they didn’t have that excuse, they’d find another. The REASON for wanting to remove statues of Washington has more to do with democrats drifing beyond socialism and communism into nihilism.

nihilism — noun — 1: “a viewpoint that traditional values and beliefs are unfounded and that existence is senseless and useless”

  3. Most people have no idea about what kind of person George Washington was. When I was at Mt. Vernon I asked their lead history teacher what book I should read to learn about Washington.
I was led to the first biography of Washington written by Mason Locke Weems (October 11, 1759 – May 23, 1825).
Weems was 40 years old when George died. Weems interviewed people that had spent time with George, like Martha.
What amazes me is how people can have such strong opinions but have never spent even one hour studying the person.
From Weems book, it certainly appears that George was loved by everyone , even his enemies. But over time, his political enemies ended up becoming his friends. Good friends whom he welcomed at his home and treated them with honor.
George treated everyonne with dignity and generosity regardless of their postion in life.
I would have cheerfully worked as a slave at Mt. Vernon , just to have the opportunity to be friends with a man of such incredible character as George.

  5. In my recollection, George Washington was the first founding father (a He/Him) who freed his slaves. That ought to count for something for the “woke” indoctrinated Democrat mob. For the remaining uncorrupted believers in the ideals of the American Republic that still work inside the DC hub, the question remains: When will the American people regain representation in Congress?

    1. William Bellinger and RikiTiki Tavi,

Lest we forget George Washington’s warning,
as conveyed by Benjamin Franklin :

      — George Washington Warns/Opines about J E W S ( 1787 ) —

      Benjamin Franklin Opines, after
      Philadelphia’s 1787 Constitutional
      Convention Speech by George
      Washington ::

“I fully agree with General Washington,
that we must protect this young nation
from an insidious influence and impen-
      etration. The menace, gentltmen, is
the Jews. In whatever country Jews
have settled in any great numbers, they
have lowered its moral tone; depretia-
      ted its commercial integrity; have
      segregated themselves and have not
been assimilated; have sneered at and
tried to undermine the Christian Religion
upon which that nation is founded by
objecting to its restrictions; have built up
      a STATE Within a STATE [ my emphasis ];
and when opposed have tried to strangle
that country to death financially, as in the
      case of Spain and Portugal.”

      1. One might, and I would be one that would, read that quite differently than you obviously have.
Ben Franklin agrees with Washington “that we must protect this young nation
from an insidious influence and impenetration”. End of sentence, end of Washingtons thinking that Franklin agrees with.
Franklin then goes on to state what Ben Franklin believes is “The menace”.

You read that except one way, I read it a different way; which is why 40% of democrats are utter morons and approving of removing statues!
