Recently-declassified documents show former FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith was involved in the secret use of intelligence briefings for the Trump campaign as information-gathering operations.
According to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the December IG report criticized the FBI for such operations after they were revealed during the IG's investigation.
Today, the Department of Justice announced today that Clinesmith has agreed to plead guilty to a federal charge of altering a document submitted to court in order to get a controversial wiretap against former Trump campaign volunteer Carter Page.
The government wiretapped and spied on page for a year as if he were a Russian spy. However, in the end, all investigations found no evidence that Page, or any American, was colluding with Russia.
